Donald Meichenbaum, Ph.D.

    Donald Meichenbaum, Ph.D., is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. After 35 years at Waterloo, Dr Meichenbaum took early retirement and became Research Director of the Melissa Institute for Violence Prevention and Treatment of Victims of Violence in Miami, FL (www.melissainstitute.org). He is also Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Miami. Dr. Meichenbaum is one of the founders of cognitive behavior therapy, and in a survey of North American clinicians, he was voted “one of the ten most influential psychotherapists of the 20th century”. He has published extensively, including Clinical Handbooks on PTSD, anger control and pain management. He is currently working with the National Guard on developing an interactive, Web-based intervention using iPod technology for returning soldiers and their family members (www.warfighterdiaries.com). He is presently a consultant to the Clearwood Treatment Center for Trauma and Substance Abuse in Grand Rapids, MI. He has presented throughout the U.S., Canada, Euope and Asia . He has trained substance abuse counselors and consulted at many treatment centers.
