This lecture will describe the relationship between psycho-social trauma and the early onset of addiction (particularly in young women). The differential diagnosis of co-morbid psychiatric disorders and substance abuse will be reviewed and a review of gender-specific literature will be stressed to deal with this complex disorder. Specific treatment techniques will be outlined based on the presenters vast combined treatment experience. This presentation will look at the successful integration of the latest findings in gender-specific treatment and their application to real life clinical practice of alcohol and drug addiction treatment.
